    LA Myth- the virtual show

Welcome to the LA Myth virtual art show! Relive favorite opening night moments (or pretend you were there) by checking out our photos on Flickr.

    Just click here:
  • Flickr

  • The opening of the LA Myth show was sssooooo much fun. I was thrilled to exhibit with such a fantastic and diverse group of artists. The opening night turn-out was great. Thanks to everyone who showed up. Favorite show moments include my little cousin Jane and her new friend Elias playing hide-n-seek under that HUGE octopus stuffed animal; the two babies dancing in front of the DJ table (and learning new moves from nearby show-goers - it was so funny!); some of our new friends from Comic-con exhibiting with us and others showing up on opening night (thanks, guys!); and of course, my friends who unexpectedly made the long drive from the OC to attend the opening. It was great to see everyone!!

Online photos aren't quite as good as seeing the art in person, so if you didn't make it to opening night, never fear, the show runs through the end of the month. You still have one more week to head over to Melt Down. Hurry! :)

    sneak peek

Just finished a couple of pieces for the LA Myth show. (I'm completely enamored with Tiki/island art right now. Can you tell?) And, I'm about to begin a wee little watercolor piece for a group segment of the show, called LA Represent. To find out what that's all about, you'll have to come to the show! ;) See you Saturday.

p.s. I heard that there is an official sake sponsor for opening night. That's right, free sake for everyone. Sounds like trouble...and a really good time.

little fishy in a big pond

    walden's gallery- ooh la la!

If you've ever watched the cartoon "Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!" on Nick Jr, you know that Wubbzy's pal Walden is quite a character. He's Wuzzleberg's resident brainiac. And, his love of the arts leads to a tour of his extensive collection in the episode entitled "Gotta Have Art". At first glance, the paintings may look familiar. But, if you take a closer look you'll find that there is definitely something Wubbzy-ish about the paintings' subjects. These images were painted with flat colors in Illustrator and then a texture overlay was created in Photoshop to give them a painterly effect.

    you gotta have art!

Here's what fine art looks like in Wubbzy's world: an ode to Cezanne, Whistler and DaVinci.

    cell overlay - yay!

I dug a bit farther back in my portfolio and came upon this beauty. (I know you haven't seen this one, Kyle!) This was an early piece from my Master's thesis project: painted traditionally with Cell Vinyl on illustration board, with a cell OL for the FG bamboo and cattails. A lotta love went into this one. Enjoy. :)

    flaming skulls - kapow!

I've come across a few fun Photoshop paintings in my portfolio files. Here's one of my favorite EFX shots from "The Fairly OddParents".

    pacific pachyderm

Okay...I'm having way too much fun doodling today! Here's a wave-riding elephant which was inspired by my evening outing to see 'Surf's Up'. It's a solid flick. Definitely worth while if you're drawn to mocumentaries...or penguins. :)

    fire tiki

It's pretty cool what can be accomplished on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Just a few minutes ago, with my open window inviting in a warm breeze and old Hawaiian tunes wafting out of the stereo, I drifted off to cat nap-land. When I awoke, this crazy image was burning in my mind's eye and I busted it out in Photoshop before it escaped me. Not too shabby for a few minutes of hurried painting.

Perhaps this will be a contender for the Tiki room at the LA Mythillogical show? Check out the details: http://www.myspace.com/lamyth [opening night: August 11th]

And, speaking of Tiki themes, check out The Tonga Hut at 12808 Victory Blvd. in North Hollywood. I suspect that the LA Myth meeting held there Fri. night is completely to blame for my Tiki-filled dreams. Cool dive bar. Low-key crowd. Cheers!

    the kat's meow!

Here's a little project I whipped up this weekend for my pals Kyle and Joe. They'll be introducing the world to their cartoony character 'Kat' and her wonderfully sarcastic co-star 'Knuckles' at Comic-Con this summer. Check out Kyle's art at www.kyleneswald.blogspot.com and Joe's art at www.joeolivares.blogspot.com and the fantastic world of Knuckles McGee at www.knuckles-mcgee.blogspot.com.
